Dedication's what you need
The Captain's Logs broke almost every Riley Cup record in the book while handing the Vice Squad an utter trouncing over two days at Greetham Valley. The Sunday singles saw the Captain's picks win six out of six, with the Vice-Captain's team only managing to put up a bit of a fight in the final match of Wildman versus Picton. But AP faltered at the last and Nigel won through leaving the Vice Squad needing all six points from the pairs just to draw level ...
Diary management
Match one of the pairs saw Chapman and Wildman take on Collins and Stevens. However, because 12 months is an insufficient period of notice for some people, both Chapman and Collins double-booked themselves and cleared off, leaving their partners to fend for themselves. It was the best most of us had ever seen Collins play. Nigel humoured the Vice Squad skipper for a few holes before dispatching him 6&4 and the whitewash was on.
Captain's log star-date 13072010
The second match saw Conrad and Ware take on Kyte and Picton. Given that Kyte had injured his shoulder jumping off a bar stool and Picton was pushing a heavily-laden pram, there was only ever going to be one result. The Logs started with three pars ... 3up. There was controversy on the 4th as Picton was refused a 3-foot gimmie and went on to miss the putt. Some may argue that his miss proves the refusal was a good decision but Picton saw it as a good opportunity to unburden the aforementioned perambulator. Ware & Conrad were 5up at the turn and went on to win the 14th in par to take the match 6&4. All eyes then turned to the new Open Champion, Dave Williams, and his parter Glenn Porter to see if they could salvage some glimmer of respecibility for the Vice Squad.
Anything you can do
The final match pitched Riley and Smith for the Logs against Williams and Porter of the Squad, although at the turn, Dave suggested he stop and collect Glenn because he obviously hadn't been in the buggy for the front nine. The other three played some magnificent golf with one or more of them scoring par or better on each of the first nine holes. The bar was ever-rising, with incidents such as Williams contriving a great up-and-down on the 3rd, immediately matched by Smith, and Riley scoring a great par 4 on the long 5th only for Williams to drop his 20-foot birdie putt. The Logs were 1up at the turn and the match continued to-and-fro until Riley and Smith went in for the kill on 14, 15 and 16, taking the match 4&2. Williams and Porter had tried their hardest but just could not prevent a 12-0 drubbing being written in to the record books.

Better than Oscar
Finally, the Edwards Tour Award was presented to Andy Picton for restraint in the face of extreme provocation. It will surprise few to learn that the source of this provocation was a certain Mr Mark Shylock Credit-Crunch Dartford Bruno Collins. This reporter was surprised that, having been nominated for vomiting on the first green on day three of the tour, Daniel Stevens did not win.
Happy birthday
So, our tenth anniversary tour has come and gone. We missed Ted, the weather was atrocious and there was a modicum of angst between certain parties on the final day but ... all in all, we enjoyed ourselves, quite a lot of beer, wine, port and brandy was drunk and there was even some cracking golf played. Here's to next year!

A Welsh Double
Dave Williams and Benjamin Riley showed that being tall, overweight and a bit Welsh is the recipe for success during our 10th anniversary Summer Tour to Greetham Valley.
Everyone else was rubbish
Dave Slimfast Williams won the Open Championship by a record 14 points and nobody could argue that his victory and its margin was undeserved. Fighting the worst conditions in Barbill Open history, Dave left the field in his wake with some massive drives and a delicate touch on and around the greens. Steady progress through diabolical conditions on day 1 saw Williams teeing off on day 2 in third place, but at the end of a soaking morning, Dave had eked out an 8-point lead. Williams was majestic in the final round pocketing four pars and a birdie on the way to his record victory. Andy Picton, who was leading after two rounds, recovered from a third round slump to pip Nigel Wildman by just one point to the Silver Medal. Following his great victory Williams said: "Actually it was quite easy, everyone else was rubbish."
Flabbator eats humble pie ... followed by six cakes and a suckling pig
Benjamin Riley exorcised some 'Tuesday' demons by snatching the Crystal Ball from Alex Conrad's chubby little fingers on the final hole. Riley started the final round in 3rd place but thrived on the pressure and having scored on almost every hole teed up on the Valley Course 18th just one point behind Conrad. With more than a touch of irony, Flabbator found the water while Riley sunk a great putt to leave Conrad potless and avenge the losses of the 2004 Open Championship and 2007 Barbill Bell. Stuart Ware, the architect of Riley's infamous distraction defeat in 2004, was hoping that this year's humiliation of Conrad would finally result in some forgiveness but Riley stated: "Never! I will never, ever let that go!"
Starsky & Hutch
Nigel Wildman won the pleasure of teeing off next year with the Golden Club following a 30-point first round while Stuart Ware and Jonathan Smith secured the King of the Lakes and Valley respectively. Dave Williams wasn't prepared to settle with just one trophy above his fireplace, out-putting everyone so that he could place the Big D Tankard alongside his Claret Jug. Glenn Porter acquired the Stevens Trophy following a near-lethal jump-and-roll á la Starsky & Hutch bail-out from his pirouetting golf buggy.
2010 President's Cup
Picton won!
2009 Masters
Mike Turner scored his first victory by four points on a bitterly cold morning. Par golf on the back 9 saw Mike leave Connie and Juggalo in his wake and his reward is a 2.6 shot cut to his handicap. Andy Picton saw off a spirited attack from Big Dave to claim the Society's inaugural Order Of Merit before the latter bolted up north in shame.
2009 Barbill Bell
Scorecard
Andy Picton won comfortably, despite my best efforts to lie to him about the scores and put him under some pressure. Big Dave was once again the bridesmaid and that's a wedding best avoided in my opinion. Dave O'Flaherty sent a 9-iron to within a foot to take the nearest-the-pin prize and the only time Ben Riley hit the fairway all day was to claim the longest drive with an absolute monster on the 18th.

2009 President's Cup
Scorecard
Glenn Blackhawk Porter scored his maiden Barbill victory with a 4-point win at Elstree. Having hit the front of the pack on the very first hole with a brilliant par for 4 points, Blackhawk never relinquished his lead. Despite a spirited attempt by Raffles to reign him in, Glenn stood resolute and never really looked in danger. The remaining positions were tightly contended with just 4 points separating 2nd to 6th place. Members went on to celebrate the Captain and Vice-Captain's birthdays with an exaggerated tour of Barnet public houses followed by a glorious golfing victory for Ben Tesco (are evil) Riley, albeit on Skeletor's Nintendo Wii.
2009 Barbill vs WLGS
Pictures
We got off to a bad start in the morning pairs going down 3:1 to the White Lion boys. Captain Connie and Gimmers lost 2&1 to the Bristendon brothers, Deirdre and Linus were defeated 3&2 by splitter Turner and Dinage while Lard and Slimfast lost 2&1 to Demery and Holman. Some face was saved by Jacob and Tatoo who clobbered Barnett and the other splitter Wildman 5&4. The lunch break gave our skipper the opportunity to deliver an inspirational team-talk. An opportunity he declined. However, the spiked drinks served to our opponents with their meal proved fuitful as they felt the full force of a Barbill backlash in the afternoon's singles. The skipper led from the front defeating Mark Bristendon 3&1. He was followed in by Jonny T, Pockets, Gimley and Skeletor who beat Dinage 5&3, Keith Bristendon 2&1, Powergen 4&3 and Demery 3&2 respectively. Unfortunately Tatoo lost out to Barnett 1up and Lard's back gave way to Holman. As Slimfast stood on the 19th tee 1 down to Mike Turner, the match score was 6:5 in Barbill's favour meaning the big lad had to win the hole to halve his match and secure our victory. Quite out of character, the big man hit the green and sank a 6-footer to do just that. Barbill win 6.5 to 5.5 and Connie's year as captain was off to the best start possible.
2008 Masters

Nigel Kit-Kat Wildman reclaimed the Barbill Masters title with a fine performance on a freezing morning at Enfield Golf Club. The first surprise of the day was that the course was fully open given the frosty conditions and the second was that Ted's hip made it round the entire 18 holes considering the temperature was below freezing for much of the morning. Furthermore, Pedrico pocketed the Nearest The Pin honours with an inspired pitching wedge in to the 14th via two trees and a small rock. At about the same time, Connie was belting a colossal 291 yard drive down the 17th fairway, bagging him the Longest Drive. Ted Dinnage scored a quite brilliant 17 points on the inward nine giving him a total of 28 points and earning him the top guest prize. The day, however, belonged to Kit-Kat, regaining the Masters trophy he first won in 2006.
2008 Fourballs Championship
In a somewhat curtailed 2008 Fourballs Championship, Connie and Pockets took the title by defeating Jacob and Slimfast in a seesaw match at Enfield. The lead changed hands several times up to the 16th, at which point the previous year's also-rans took a one hole lead that they never relinquished. Raffles still had to sink a nasty little five-footer (and I'm not talking about Gimmers) to halve the final hole and take the match 1up.

The 2008 Riley Cup was won at a bit of a canter by the Tall Boys. Despite the introduction of singles matches off Society handicaps in this year's competition, the Side Boards were unable to push home their advantage and were sent packing in the fourballs. The first day of competition saw the vertically challenged take a one point lead, winning the singles four points to three. Kyte, Wildman and Dorlikar defeated Collins, Chapman and Riley respectively while Conrad dispatched Stevens equally comfortably. Picton was taken all the way by an inspired Sturdy before taking his match 1up and the points were shared by Porter, Williams, Smith and Ware. This slender lead evidently led to a little over-confidence in the short-trousered camp while served as a timely kick up the collective backside for the lofty lads. When the skippers announced their running orders for the Wednesday fourballs, some eyebrows were raised at shorty Smith's selections. One may have thought that with just four points needed for victory, the Lilliputian captain would have sent out the two strongest pairs he could muster. However, the munchkins saw it differently and paid the price. Skipper Williams prevailed 6&4 over Porter while Collins and Conrad conquered Dorlikar and Smith 7&5 taking the score to 6 points to 4 in favour of those allowed to ride the roller-costers at Disneyland. So, with just two points required for victory, Riley and Ware routed Stevens and Sturdy 8&6 despite some spirited resistance from Pedrico, undoubtedly Barbill's most improved player this year. With victory now assured, Chapman and Picton relaxed enough to overcome Kyte and Wildman 1up, thus completing a day two whitewash. The Tall Boys victory by 10 points to 4 was the most comprehensive in Riley Cup history. Muffy presented the Edwards Tour Award to Monkey for a sequence of events that went something like this ... Daniel and his ball were on the edge of the 4th fairway on the Valley course. His playing partner, Darren, was standing on the edge of the fairway bunker, some 30 yards away almost at right angles to the Monkey-man. Daniel turned to Muffy and, referring to Darren's location, said "I can't believe he's stupid enough to stand there." He was of course joking, to be so wayward as to threaten Gimmers given their relative positions was surely beyond even Daniel's scatter-gun golf. Monkey then proceeded to demonstrate the inside shank (a trick-shot so difficult even Phil Michelson can't pull it off), propelling the ball at breakneck speed just inches off the ground and straight at Darren's forehead, sending him diving in to the bunker to avoid guaranteed disfiguration. Back at the clubhouse, on behalf of the altitudinous alliance, (not so) Big (anymore) Dave lifted the Riley Cup well and truly out of the physically curtailed's reach.

Stuart Winky Walter Pockets Pike Ware cruised to his maiden Open Championship title. The nine point margin of victory belies the ease with which he won. Connie Picton took an early lead with a Golden Club winning performance in the first round, scoring 36 points from a gross 85 round the Lakes. Andy held his lead after round two but it had been cut to just three points with Winky, Tourettes and Glenda breathing down his neck. Shagga, Shylock, Tatoo, Monkey and Kit-Kat all missed the cut, as did Gimley, our 2006 champion proving that, indeed, form is very temporary. Connie blew his lead and plenty more in round three while Pockets went round in 87, scoring 35 excellent points. Having to do no more than simply maintain his 9 point advantage in round four proved easy for the leader. Jonny T pipped Connie for the Silver Medal while Slimfast retained his King Of The Valley title and Connie added King Of The Lakes to the Golden Club. Gimmers and Kit-Kat both shared 45 points over the two rounds of the Crystal Ball and the latter was awarded the title on count-back. Earlier in the week, Shagga Chapman won the Big D Challenge, the rules of which were unclear to everyone, particularly the organiser as far as I could tell. Shylock McCollins managed to take just enough time away from talking about his cosmetic surgery to smash his 3 wood round a tree, thus earning him the Stevens Trophy. The sweep on the number of times Shylock would mention his operation had to be abandoned after only one day as the number had already become too large for 21st century computers to cope with. We can, however, be certain of this, tip your hats and tug your forlocks in the direction of Mr Stuart Ware, Barbill Champion Golfer 2008.

Following a fantastic day at Verulam Golf Club, over 60 people came together and raised almost £2200 for our nominated charities. There was some great golf played to boot with Phil Grogan winning the individual competition with a brilliant 39 points. We cannot even acuse him of being a handicap bandit playing, as he did, off just 9! Ian Erwin was not far behind with 36 points closely followed by both David O'Flaherty and Mike Canham with 35, the latter taking outright 3rd place on count-back. Andy Connie Picton took the member's Charity Medal with an excellent 34 points, keeping alive his dreams of the elusive Grand Slam, an achievement thus far beyond even Skeletor. The top group prize was taken by Dave Corfan, Paul Rushton and Greg Schreiber with an average score of almost 30. All but Andy Chucker Woods, who has taken moaning to an almost professional level, were impressed with the fantastic condition of the course which offered both a challenge and the opportunity for reward, aptly demonstrated by Geoff Davy who's gross birdie on the 14th earned him a rare 5-pointer! A fine meal and presentation of the prizes followed and the evening's frivolities were capped by the raffle, that went on far too long courtesy of Mr Picton who was, by then, seven sheets to the wind. Nevertheless, Connie's relentless efforts in divesting all present of every penny they may have turned up with had swollen the raffle fund alone to an amazing £540. Added to the proceeds from our fine system, lost-ball sweep, impromptu auctions and entrance fees, our grand total for the day was an impressive £2180. Many, many thanks to everyone at Verulam Golf Club and particularly to our sponsors, the BBGS Committee and our friends from the BEM Golf Society, who all contributed to the amazing and glitzy array of prizes. We thank everyone for their generosity and look forward to seeing you next year ... 19 June 2009

Andy Picton finally won a BBGS event, taking the President's Cup by 6 points. It was a long overdue and deserved victory for this most dedicated servant of the Society. Leading Jonny T by 4 points and Skeletor by 6 after 18 holes, AP brimmed with confidence as he took to the tee for the final 9 holes. In order to generate some additional tension, as is his want in this competition, the President had dictated that the last leg be tackled with only four clubs in the bag. However, his efforts were entirely unnecessary as a 3 wood, a tree and Andy 'Conifer' Picton injected all the spice and comic timing that one could ever wish for. Having placed his ball confidently on the aforementioned tee, Connie (as AP shall surely for evermore be known) began his pre-shot routine only to be probed by a vicious barb from Skeletor, who's dreams of a Grand Slam were falling apart at the first hurdle despite his 43 practise rounds in the preceding fortnight: "Watch out for the water on the right Andy!" This, the very same callous attack that had influenced Connie to duff the ball 20 yards to the left that very morning. Alas, the result was freakishly similar ... apart from the fact that it was followed by Connie hurling his 3-wood in the same direction only for it to come to rest half way up a 40-foot conifer. As the realisation that the leader had just disposed of 25% of his club allowance, the sniggering began, only to be curtailed by Connie's attempt to rob Jonny T of his Tourettes crown. As Andy's self-control struggled to deal with his obvious rage and embarrasment he turned his now purple face to Lard and Little-Ted, probably the worst of those congregated with whom to seek sollace, given their particular propensity for general laughter and taking of the proverbial. In the face of the resultant guffawing and unsympathetic comments, Connie launched himself up the thieving tree with great gusto in search of his beloved 3-wood. After he was about 15 feet up shrouded in foliage, Walter Winky Pockets Pike shared the Comment of the Day with "Wouldn't Daniel be the best person to send up the tree?" However, spurning the natural ability of our most hirsute friend, Connie recovered his club, demomstrating considerable tree ascention mastery, strangely emulating the profession of last year's winner. Over the next four holes, Connie proceeded to throw most of his toys out of his pram allowing Jonny Tourettes to draw level. Indeed, the only competitor to fall apart more manifestly was Skeletor who scored just 6 points on the final leg ... take note Barbillians, you can get to Conrad by throwing a protracted hissy-fit! Eventually, Connie recovered his composure and marched on to victory. Triumph in the face of adversity perhaps, winning despite of oneself is the more likely interpretation.
2008 Barbill vs BEM
Pictures
Despite Walter Winky Pockets Pike's best efforts to throw the match, honours were shared at the North Middlesex Golf Club. Stuart's pathetic 5&4 loss, albeit generous, was not sufficient to give the game to BEM. V-C Lenny and his mate Shaun Hannibal 'Lector' restored respectability with a powerful 3&2 victory while Conrad maintained his record of winning at every possible opportunity recording a 3&1 victory in partnership with BBGS old boy, Andy Woods. Unfortunately, Dorlikar and Wildman subsequently lost 3&2 leaving the teams all square. A re-match is planned for March next year. Pictures will be available for your pleasure as soon as the Captain sends them to me!
2008 Annual Dinner
A great time was had by all at our annual dinner. Our host restaurant, Sargasso Sea, served a delicious menu and in true Barbill style we drank them dry of at least three varieties of wine. On the absurd notion that we had not yet knocked enough back, we de-camped to Chairman Collins' beautiful abode and sank a few more. There are a few grainy snaps to peruse should you feel the need.

With Benjamin Riley, the only member seemingly capable of challenging Alex Skeletor Conrad, unfortunately struck down by a stomach bug, there was nobody to prevent the latter from cleaning up at the season's closer on New Year's Eve. Alex capped a fantastic season with a one point victory over Dave and Stuart. Little Ted took second place on count back following an incredible 19 point back nine. Skeletor's frailty was highlighted by the fact that on the back nine alone, he would only have placed fifth. However, his consistency and improvement throughout 2007 cannot be ignored and the Skipper capped a brilliant season with yet another victory.
2007 Fourballs Championship
League Table
Skeletor and Little Ted take the 2007 Fourballs Championship by just half a point. Having won their first two matches 4&3, they could have won the competition against Collins and Riley but an incredible performance by Lard culminating in an amazing final hole recovery resulted in the underdogs magnificently halving the match. Smith and Wildman knew they were out of it and pathetically forfeited their remaining two matches meaning that Collins & Riley had to beat Picton & Ware to take the tournament to a play-off. Unfortunately, Shylock had one of his worst days on the course and left poor Lard fighting single-handedly. Despite a few pars and some credible golf, Ben came up against an inspired Pike and, despite Lenny's pretentions, it was Stuart who closed the match down with five still to play. The championship went to Conrad & Williams by half a point.

Riley choked in a play-off, Conrad won yet again. As the choker in question, I am too ashamed and upset to author the match report and can only offer my apologies to the rest of the society for effectively placing the magnificent Barbill Bell in Skeletor's clammy hands.

The Riley Cup once again came down to the very last hole with the Young Pups claiming a thrilling victory over the Pensioners. The Pups' captain, Andy Picton, took the responsibility of playing the singles paired against Andy Woods in Match 1. Despite the skipper falling short of his best form, he scrapped all the way to the 18th where Chucker won the hole and the match, 2up. Match 2 saw Darren Kyte and Daniel Stevens for the Pups take on Pensioners Vij Dorlikar and Nigel Wildman. This was another closely contested game that saw the old'uns take an early lead, only to be pegged back by the vertically challenged Pups pairing, before reclaiming control and killing the game off on the 17th, winning 2&1. Meanwhile, the horribly aged pair of Alex Conrad and Ted Sturdy were getting an absolute pasting from Ben Riley and Dave Williams in Match 4. Even their combined century of experience was not enough to compete with the inspired, aggressive golf played by the big lads. Lard and Little Ted dove-tailed beautifully on the front nine, matching Champion Golfer Skeletor and Pedrico hole for hole to leave them all square at the turn. But Dave and Ben had another two gears, playing holes 10 to 15 in three under par where they took the match 4&3. Only their buggy, straining under about 40 stones, took more of a pounding than their elderly opponents. Match 3, Mark Collins and Stuart Ware versus Glenn Porter and Jonathan Smith, saw the latter pairing 3up with only five to play and all was seemingly lost for the Young Pups. However, drama ensued with Shylock and Winky pegging the deficit back on the 14th and halving the 15th leaving them 2 down. The need to win all three remaining holes to take the match seemed to motivate Mark and Stuart while the growth of both tension and gallery seemed to affect the old codgers negatively. With Winky displaying his usual consistency and Shylock unusual levels of concentration, they won 16 and 17 to take the match down the 18th all square. It was simple, if the Pensioners won or halved the hole, the Riley Cup was theirs, but a win for the Pups would see the matches tied 2 a-piece and the trophy going to the youngsters by virtue of winning margins. The tee shots on the 18th left all four players with a daunting 2nd over the water to a distant green. Both Glenn and Jonathan stuck theirs' in the drink allowing the Pups to lay up and pitch to the green where Johnny Tourettes graciously conceded the hole without either Mark or Stuart needing to reach for a putter. Pups' captain, Andy Picton, lifted the Riley Cup with gusto and much joy before also claiming the Edwards Tour Award for some act of typical tomfoolery.

Skeletor won again! The Captain's consistency resulted in a well-deserved victory. AP took the first round lead but five opponents were within only three points and the irrepressible Conrad was just one point behind. Round two saw Lenny stretch the field and extend his lead over Skeletor by a point. In the third round, Conrad powered ahead with a quite brilliant 35 points on the Lakes course, bettered only by Winky Ware who was unfortunately already out of the running. It was a stunning round from both and one that earned Stuart the Golden Club. Round four saw Alex bettered by both Big Dave and Jonny Tourettes but his lead was unassailable by this point and the man that failed to top score in a single round of the four proved that consistent golf is the key, boring and monotonous as it may be. Victory for Alex Skeletor Conrad. But there's only one way to appreciate the full story and that is to see the DVD. Contact the Secretary to purchase a copy.

Both the weather and the welcome were warm at Arkley Golf Club, where no less than 30 members and guests competed in the Society's Charity Day, raising £900 for the Jack Brown Appeal in the process. Vic Massey won the overall event with 33 points, just one ahead of three chasers with the top ten separated by only 4 points. John Ford took second place on count back just squeezing Geoffrey Davy in to third. Jonathan "Top Soil" Smith displayed some uncharacteristic consistency, scoring 16 out and 16 in to take the member's Charity Medal and Andy Woods followed his victory in the Chairman's Chalice earlier this year by taking second place in the member's rankings. However, this means their handicaps are now cut to 20 and 17 respectively for the all-important summer tour in July. Brian Bull hit a monster drive on the 10th which managed to hold on to the fairway winning him the big hitter prize and Tony Dore put his tee shot on the 18th to within 4 inches of the hole. The 18th green is not visible from the tee and poor Tony was duped in to believing he had nailed his first ever hole-in-one when a mischievous Lenny raced over and popped his ball in to the hole. The reason we were all there of course, was to raise money and I am proud to say we did so very successfully. Our thanks go to all those that made donations and particularly to everyone that took part on the day. We would like to extend particular gratitude to Arkley Golf Club, who not only hosted us very professionally but also supported the financial goal of the day and our fund would be considerably smaller were it not for their support.
2007 President's Cup
Andy Woods held his nerve to play to a superb final 9 holes and see off a spirited challenge from Winky and Lenny on the New Course at Hatfield London. Chucker shot 6 pars on his way to winning The President's Cup, fully deserving the cut of 2 shots to his handicap! Reigning Open Champion Darren Kyte kept himself in the hunt with some monster drives, scoring a birdie on the 309 yard 5th. Gimley was severely punished by the course on a number of occasions when straying only slightly off the fairways. The deep gorse came up to his arm-pits (ankles for most of us) resulting in several lost balls. This cost him any chance of victory despite 6 pars on his way round. His new square-headed driver may prove pivotal in his Open defence in the summer. Ware surprised us all by arriving uncharacteristically late (fined) but started strongly nonetheless, scoring 16 points on the front 9 alone and a total of 5 pars saw him once again acting the bridesmaid, taking second place for the second successive competition. Daniel Stevens caused the biggest shock of the day, swinging his monkey arms freely and winning longest drive with a 320 yard effort, up hill and in to the wind. Glenn Porter scored a couple of quality pars on his way to top guest on the day. Andy Picton saw visions of an ace on the 3rd hole, hitting his tee shot past the pin and spinning back to within a few feet. He nailed the putt for birdie but failed to capitalise and is still waiting for his maiden victory. At lunch, Chucker had a 3 point lead over Winky with Lenny a further 2 points adrift. The carbohydrate-fuelled interval appeared to have hampered the leader, enabling Ware to draw level with 5 holes remaining but with Woods scoring consecutive pars at 14 and 15, Ware failed to respond and Andy 'Tiger' (Kitten?) Woods went on to win by 3 points.

Despite the weather and the abundance of temporary greens, we played out a most competitive Barbill Masters on New Year's Eve. Powergen triumphed despite some suspicion that he may have been carrying more than the legal number of clubs. However, at the time of official inspection, only 14 were counted. Unfortunately, our President was unable to participate due to a back injury so acted as event photographer. This not only resulted in everybody else at least having a chance to win but also an extensive suite of action shots that can be viewed on our pictures page. We enjoyed the company of a guest in Ralph Stringer who, playing off 8, scored a brilliant 34 stableford points and contended with the temporary greens by chipping in with monotonous regularity. Ralph also pipped Alex for Nearest The Pin but Skeletor avenged himself by comfortably winning the Longest Drive. Nigel displayed great consistency blobbing on only two holes and despite being pushed hard by both Stuart and Jonathan, he prevailed. Thank you to those that braved the elements and took part, making it a most enjoyable occasion as always.
