Handicaps are calculated on stroke play relative to the Barbill Scratch Score (BSS). BSS is calculated by deducting 8 from the standard scratch score (SSS) of the course. A "blob" or other high score is counted as the number of shots the player, with his handicap allowance, would have scored 1 stableford point, plus one. The size of any adjustment depends upon your handicap category. Handicaps will be raised by 0.2 for each qualifying round in which the member's stroke play score is higher than BSS plus handicap, unless their handicap is already at the maximum value of 28. (Note: this was raised from 0.1 in May 2009).
